Kedrick Scribner Foundation Vocational Training Center

Empowering Through Education, Skill Development, and Outreach

At the Kedrick Scribner Foundation, we believe that education and practical skills are powerful tools for breaking the cycle of poverty and dependency. Our Vocational Training Centers are at the heart of this mission—empowering individuals with the knowledge, resources, and confidence to create better lives for themselves and their communities.

We are not only teaching skills; we are transforming lives through mentorship, entrepreneurship, and tangible support. Our approach focuses on fostering self-reliance, economic empowerment, and sustainable development—locally and globally.

Two Centers, One Purpose: Nigeria and the United States

We operate two distinct vocational centers, each designed to meet the unique needs of its community while staying true to our mission of empowerment.

🇳🇬 Lagos, Nigeria – Comprehensive Skills Training

Our Lagos center is a full-scale vocational training hub, currently offering programs in:

  • Tailoring and Fashion Design

  • Computer Skills

  • Beadmaking and Accessories Design

These programs are designed to serve widows, orphans, and vulnerable individuals by equipping them with marketable skills. Top-performing graduates are awarded tools such as sewing machines, laptops, or beadmaking kits to help them launch their own businesses or secure employment. Our hands-on, entrepreneurship-driven approach turns learners into leaders in their communities.

🇺🇸 Baltimore, Maryland – Outreach and Community Empowerment

Our Baltimore center operates with a community-focused outreach model that addresses immediate needs while preparing for future vocational programs. Its mission is not smaller—it is strategically different.

Current activities include:

  • Free back-to-school haircuts for children

  • Distribution of food and essential supplies to homeless shelters

  • Seasonal outreach and support events for families and underserved individuals

Baltimore’s center is actively involved in addressing real-time community needs, while laying the groundwork for full vocational classes—set to launch soon. The focus is community restoration through action, with plans to introduce skills training that mirrors the impact of our Nigeria programs.

Tailoring and Fashion Design Program (Lagos)

The tailoring and fashion design program is divided into two tiers:

  • Beginners Class: Students learn fabric selection, machine operation, and simple sewing techniques.

  • Advanced Class: Participants master detailed tailoring, pattern drafting, and fashion business principles.

Graduates receive resources like new sewing machines and fabrics to launch their fashion careers or entrepreneurial ventures.

Computer Skills Training Program (Lagos)

This course prepares students for the digital world, covering:

  • Basic computer operations

  • Microsoft Office Suite

  • Graphic design tools

  • Online research and digital communication

  • Job readiness training

Top students receive laptops to continue learning, working, and building careers in tech or administration.

Beadmaking and Accessories Design Program (Lagos)

In this creative program, students learn to design:

  • Jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, earrings)

  • Beaded bags

  • Decorative accessories

Business training is integrated, teaching branding, pricing, and marketing. Graduates receive professional bead kits to immediately begin their own craft businesses.

Beyond Training: Supporting Success

We believe that training is only the beginning. That’s why we invest in our graduates’ long-term success by providing essential startup equipment and connecting them with mentorship opportunities. Many of our alumni go on to become employers themselves, extending the impact of our work throughout their communities.

A Global Movement of Empowerment

From Lagos to Baltimore, our centers reflect a shared vision: to empower individuals through skill-building, outreach, and real-world opportunity. Whether it’s training a future fashion entrepreneur in Lagos or delivering food to families in Baltimore, we are committed to creating pathways to dignity, independence, and progress.

Each initiative, whether vocational or outreach-focused, plays a vital role in building stronger communities, nurturing leadership, and inspiring lasting change.

Barbershop Wrap: Fresh Cuts, Warm Meals, and Real Conversations for Real Lives

At the Kedrick Scribner Foundation, we believe that empowerment begins with presence—being present where people are, hearing their stories, and offering practical, heartfelt support. That belief has inspired the launch of a new monthly initiative at our Baltimore Vocational Center: Barbershop Wrap—a powerful blend of community, compassion, and candid conversation.

Starting Sunday, September 28, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and recurring on the last Sunday of every month, Barbershop Wrap will open its doors to teenagers, young adults, and veterans—groups in our community who often carry untold burdens, quiet struggles, and the weight of transition. We’re creating a space where they can come not only to receive a professional haircut and a warm, nourishing meal, but also to sit, listen, and reflect on real-life topics delivered by powerful, relatable guest speakers.

Each event is designed to do more than serve physical needs—it’s about building trust, fostering resilience, and offering hope. It’s about giving people a reason to lift their heads, to see a little farther down the road, and to know they’re not walking alone.

This is not your average community program. Barbershop Wrap is part circle of mentorship, part safe haven, and part motivational platform, carefully designed to meet people where they are, and walk with them toward where they hope to be.

More Than Just a Haircut

Each monthly Barbershop Wrap is infused with the warmth of genuine hospitality and the strength of real human connection. Our team of volunteer barbers, community chefs, and guest mentors come together not out of obligation, but out of passion—for the people, for the purpose, and for the progress we know is possible.

We believe that even one afternoon of kindness, conversation, and community can set someone on a new course. That’s the heartbeat of Barbershop Wrap. Whether it’s a young man trying to find direction, a veteran searching for peace, or a teen needing someone to believe in them—this is a space that says: you matter, and your future is worth fighting for.

As with everything we do at the Kedrick Scribner Foundation, Barbershop Wrap is about impact, dignity, and change. And this is just the beginning. As the program grows, we envision mentorship circles, peer support groups, mental health resources, and more.

So, spread the word. Show up. Support. Volunteer. Share. Because when we gather with purpose, transformation happens—one story, one person, one fresh start at a time.
